Giant Bluefin Tuna Angling in Ireland
Daryl is delighted to be one of only 22Â skippers in Ireland selected and trained to partake in the Irish Bluefin Tuna CHART programme since it began in 2019. This means he is one of only 22 skippers nationally who can legally target bluefin tuna on a catch and release basis! Consistently in the top catching skippers in Ireland every year, Daryl has a fine record. we are officially licensed by Inland Fisheries Ireland/The Marine Institute and the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority as an approved skipper/boat.
All the big game gear is on board and have caught tuna to over 800lbs in the past. Come experience the world class tuna fishery we have in Sligo and Donegal Bay. It is currently rated as one of the best, if not the best, in the world. Forget wicked tuna!
When fishing these species it is important you choose a skipper with a proven track record and experience. Terminal Tackle
All of our bluefin tuna gear is custom made for the boat. Trolling rods are custom hand built to our skippers specifications by Alba Rods, UK. Stand up rods are custom built to our skippers specifications by Legacy Rods, UK and thrasher rods, USA. We use rods with full ball bearing rollers to minimize line chafe, spooled with 130lb momoi high catch and diamond braid/mono hollow core spliced combos. We use custom built and black magic fighting belts depending on the rod. For reels we use two speed shimano tiagra A130 and 80W with drag and bearing upgrades as well as Okuma Makiera 80W reels.
These are heavy duty set ups with plenty of line and drag power giving much better chances of tagging a giant. Our lures are combinations of custom built titanium trolling bars, birds, daisy chains, poppers and more. We have colours and shapes to suit what will work best on the day.
Our skipper hand makes all of his own spreader bars to ensure they are of the highest standard. He also adds his own little tricks to ensure they are world class tuna catching machines! We also have downriggers but find fishing our own v patterns from the outriggers yields the best results.
